Food, drink and wages against the budget

Business Pulse sets gross profit on food, gross profit on drink and labour as a share of sales against your budget in the management accounts, every quarter or every month, and Peter goes through them with you at the review.

The labour cost calculator works out a week's wages and employer National Insurance as a share of sales.

Small business rate relief

A business using one property with a rateable value under £15,000 gets small business rate relief, and pays nothing at £12,000 or less. Relief tapers between £12,001 and £15,000: 50% at £13,500 and 33% at £14,000.

Taking on a second property keeps relief on the first for 36 months where the second was taken on from 27 November 2025, or 12 months before that date. After that, relief continues only if no other property has a rateable value above £2,899 and the total stays under £20,000, or £28,000 in London.

Capital allowances on a refit

The Annual Investment Allowance covers up to £1 million of plant and machinery a year, and companies can claim full expensing on new and unused main-rate plant at 100%. Special-rate assets such as integral features qualify at 50% under full expensing.
